Dining at Butler House

Butler House Kilkenny offers a range of delightful dining options. We serve breakfast, lunch and afternoon in our restaurant. Private dining option also available.

Butler House kitchen is overseen by our Executive Chef Gerard Dunne. Gerard ensures every dish is perfect and his ethos is that the best meals start with the best ingredients.

A little word from Gerard…

“Wherever possible we source according to ‘local, natural and seasonal’ within a 60km radius of the property.

Our seasonal vegetables are sourced from Rivers Field Farm and Deegan's, where we get a weekly update on produce from the cold frames, veg plots and seasonal borders, from which the menu is planned from.

La Rousse Foods source meats, poultry and game for us from across Ireland. Andarl Farm pork is featured on our lunch menu, smoked trout from Goats Bridge Thomastown again on our breakfast selection. 

High Bank Orchards supplies us with apple syrup and black apple treacle for our in-house homemade Costello's brown soda loaf which is on sale at reception.

Fish is landed from the day boats on the south coast and delivered by the Kilkenny Fisherman’s Market Company. Glenilen Farm in Co. Cork supply our butter along with chefs’ homemade seasonal jams and marmalade.

The sausages which will be featured on the breakfast menu are a special blend specifically made for Butler House by Grogan and Brown Butchers in Loughboy.

Our cheese board celebrates the remarkable rebirth of Irish cheeses from small farms all over the county.

Our coffee is from Coffee Perfection and our special blend teas are chosen from Ronnefeldt to compliment your afternoon tea experience.

My vision for 2019 is whereby: 

The seasons yield a wide abundance of fruit, herbs, salads and vegetables throughout the year, which enable the kitchen team to provide the freshest local seasonal produce for the dining room ensuring the finest culinary experiences. 

With these raw materials – the fruit of the Irish soil – something very special is sure to ensue, but the extra magic is applied in the kitchen by our team of chefs. Everything has been selected to be the best that Ireland has to offer, and constantly revised to make sure nothing inferior has arrived.”

Our guests will enjoy the historic setting of Butler House with the splendour of the large bay windows, original plastered ceilings, crisp white linen, castle views and the finest locally sourced food. Our tea room walls are adorned with magnificent pieces of art from the Basil Goulding Collection.

Butler House Tea Room is open for Breakfast and Morning Tea from 8am -10am, and Lunch from 12 p.m. - 4 p.m.

Afternoon Tea is served from 2-4p.m. (pre-booking is essential).

Butlers' Pantry, our eclectic basement restaurant and bar, is available for private dining events such as Engagement Parties, Christenings, Confirmations, Communions and more!
